The Lower Colorado River Water Planning Group (Region K) is one of 16 regional water planning groups. The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) established the groups in 1997 to develop and periodically revise a comprehensive water plan for Texas through 2070.
Region K includes members who represent various interest groups and are responsible for developing and refining the long-range water plan for the Central Texas region.
TWDB sponsors development of the Region K water plans. The Lower Colorado River Authority is the administrative agent for Region K. AECOM is the consultant for Region K and is responsible for developing the regional planning documents, including the Region K water plan itself and the underlying data used to develop the plan.
Region K ended the fifth round of regional water planning (2017-2021) in 2020 with the adoption of the 2021 Region K plan.
Region K actively seeks public comments on the initially prepared water plan, the initial scope of work for a new planning cycle and for other items at various stages of each five-year planning cycle.
TWDB will include the 2021 Region K Water Plan, completed in November 2020, in the 2022 State Water Plan that outlines water needs for Texas over the next 50 years. The current state water plan was completed in 2017.
